Reimagining Parenthood with Rachel Shanken

What happens when life doesn’t turn out the way you planned?

In this episode, Rachel Shanken LMHC shares her journey to becoming an adoptive parent, something she never envisioned herself doing. She shares about the heartbreaking conversation as a single woman in her 30s when her doctors said that she may never have biological children. She did finally get married, but then struggled through the ups and downs of umpteen failed cycles to try to get pregnant, first with her eggs and then with donor eggs (and a devastating miscarriage). And she glows as she talks about her three adopted children and her journey to bring them into her life.

This is a story of persistence, hope and resilience that you are not going to want to miss.

Mental & Body is a Whole Health Experience.

Their Story Matters with Sara Troy and Guest Rachel Shanken

“Sara Troy interviews me about learning to access the deeper layers of your body, heart and mind to create greater joy and health in your life and in your relationships.”

Mental health constitutes a whole-body, whole-life experience. Research demonstrates that emotional issues become stored in bodily tissues. While traditional talk therapies may provide partial healing, they frequently fail to address core issues because they cannot access these physiological imprints. Conditions like trauma, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression create systemic distress precisely because they impact every aspect of a person’s being. True healing emerges when individuals learn to listen to the deeper layers connecting body, heart, and mind.

Rachel Shanken, LMHC, RYT, founded MindBodyWise and developed its therapeutic approach. As both a licensed mental health counselor and registered yoga teacher, she specializes in mind-body interventions for trauma, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Her philosophy centers on the belief that individuals already possess the solutions they seek.

Rachel Shanken’s client-centered methodology focuses on:

  • Teaching clients to access their innate wisdom
  • Facilitating connections with authentic desires
  • Empowering concrete steps toward personal goals

Based in New York City, Rachel Shanken provides private and group sessions globally through virtual platforms, helping clients worldwide achieve emotional freedom and joyful living through integrated mind-body healing.
